Background

TIAS was formed by Qantas, Ansett and TAA in 1978 to provide electronic distribution of the reservation systems of major airlines operating in Australia, to Australian travel agents.

The system provided agents with a multi access switching facility enabling them to switch between the various airline reservations systems via a single terminal, rather than travel agents having to have a separate terminal to access each system.

In 1992, TIAS extended this service by acquiring Sabre Pacific (Sabre) and Southern Cross Distribution Systems (Galileo) and distributing these two Global Distribution Systems (GDS’) in Australia and New Zealand. These two companies continued to operate independently, however with TIAS provided non-competitive services such as administration, corporate finance and technical support to both companies.

As well as supporting GDS products, TIAS began developing advanced systems for the distribution of non-GDS products such as tour packages, insurance and foreign exchange.

In April 2001, after providing Sabre and Galileo distribution for almost 10 years, TIAS sold the distribution rights of these two GDS’ to Sabre International and Galileo Inc.

In May 2002 the TIAS business was acquired by NAQ Technology, a company specialising in software and ecommerce solutions for the sale of insurance products within the financial services industry. The natural fit, and synergies created between NAQ Technology and TIAS has further established TIAS as a leading technology provider within the travel industry.

Today, with over 25 years experience, TIAS is a leader in the field of travel technology, continuing to distribute local and international travel product to 100% of Australian and New Zealand travel agents via both the Internet and traditional X.25 environments.
